| BDPA New Jersey Chapter Helps HSCC Students Earn Prestigous Scholarships
During 2006, the NJ BDPA Educational Committee chaired by the President Elect and Honorable Coram Rimes, City Councilman-At-Large was instrumental in obtaining two full college scholarships at one of New Jersey's top colleges. The Honors College and the Educational Opportunity Program at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) awarded two former HSCC students, Jose Santiago, former team captain and Anika Ganya, former co-captain, full college scholarships. With tuition, room & board this amounted to over $20,000 annually for a four-year period. Jose is a computer science major and Anika is pre-Med major
NJIT is a technology and engineering school that is ranked 11th in the United States and it has a Bio-Medical program that allows students to complete undergraduate school and medical school in 7 years. The Honors College is very selective and students must have obtained 3.7 GPA and 1400 on the SAT to be considered. Jose and Anika were very focused and we are sure that they will do well.
The NJ BDPA Educational Committee met during the year with the students to counsel them on college, financial aid, and SAT testing. In fact, Coram conducted a Saturday workshop with the students and parents for the college bound students in the chapter. Kudos to Coram for a job well done!! |
